Premium Short Cake @ Sapporo Grand Hotel

To celebrate my own birthday for the first time in Sapporo, I daringly got a cake with a forbidding price tag of 1,300 yen per piece. What an indulgence!

However, when I opened the box, there was a collapsed cake as if ridiculing my humble celebration.

It was supposed to look like this,

but in reality, I found this.

It ended up looking like a trifle when I transferred it onto a plate.

Still, it tasted marvelous; why is a combination of milk fat, sugar, and fresh strawberries so enchanting? Meanwhile, a part of me couldn't help but feel my XXth year had already been tarnished and cursed...

In hindsight, I guess this cake should be consumed on site, rather than taken away to endure a long journey. The sponge is too soft to support the three layers of cream and berries. I should have gone for a standard two-layer version (700 yen) instead.
