Today's outing was a cycle around the Yamahana area.
Yamahana is a lovely neighborhood.
The east side (towards the Toyohira River) has a down-to-earth yet lively atmosphere (and seems to try a bit hard to look 'sophisticated'),
while as you go west, it feels quieter and more tranquil. The area is home to the central library, a high-end (compared to my local branch) Toko Store, and Mt. Moiwa.
On my morning outing today, I first headed to the central library,
where I had an iced coffee and a long-life doughnut—which, despite its simple appearance, turned out to be right up my alley! (Note: The cafĂ© section on the ground floor had closed down. I had my treat in the basement cafeteria, mixed in with retired gentlemen.)
Then I took a look around the Yamahana Suntown apartment complex behind the library. I think this is one of the most stylish and well-crafted housing developments in Sapporo (simply a place to envy!).
Next, I headed to the combined Co-op Sapporo and Muji store.
As far as I know, this branch of Muji offers the sleekest layout and displays in Sapporo (counterarguments are welcome!). Best of all, it isn't crowded. Finally, I went to a mini shopping complex housing Hokkai Ichiba.
We trust this grocery store as a top-notch fishmonger and greengrocer, but today—near the end of a long holiday weekend—the selection was a bit disappointing. I knew it was unreasonable to expect fresh bargains when the wholesale markets were closed!
By 1 p.m., I was starting to feel peckish. The energy from the library doughnut had officially run out. However, Donguri—a bakery with an eat-in space—and Burger King were both packed with local residents enjoying their time off. There seemed to be no room for a solo wanderer to squeeze in.
I ended up stopping by a Secoma for a bag of french fries and a bottle of cold tea before heading home. What a carbohydrate-rich day!
